Sophia Willoughby of Blandamer House is the perfect upstanding Victorian matriarch, and yet behind closed doors her husband lives abroad with his bohemian mistress and Sophie is angry at life.

An immense tragedy occurs and Sophia goes to seek him out. Instead of finding support in her husband she finds herself intensely attracted to the charismatic mistress and a wild city in the throes of revolution.

Warning: this one really show its age in the language referencing other nationalities and races, however is also is weirdly revolutionary in its treatment of the place of women and others outside the traditional Victorian power structure.
