Proudly serving Books. Booze. Coffee since 2017.

Once upon a time, in a different location and with a different generation, Phlox was born.

Today we can be found in East London offering the best selection of fiction, non-fiction and children’s book in our bright and airy Victorian shop on a pedestrianised street.

We live by the ‘books.booze.coffee’ mantra and have paired our beautiful books with a fully integrated bar/café serving locally roasted Allpress Coffee, craft beers and delicious natural wines.

Who we are

Founded by Aimée, a Northern Irish bookseller who opened the doors to Phlox Books in 2017. Phlox was originally located in Belfast in the early ‘80s and owned by her parents. Whilst the original shop no longer exists, the independent spirit lives on as she seeks out diverse, beautiful and unique new books (often accompanied by the bookshop bulldog or juggling one of her small children!)

What we do

We love our shop. Each book is carefully chosen, beautifully displayed to give it a moment in the limelight and lovingly found its perfect home.

As avid readers, our favourite thing is to help recommend the perfect book, either for yourself or as a seemingly impossible present for Great- Aunt Maud who only like cats and trains, and has read everything on them.

All the staff are barista and bar trained so can whip up a great coffee, recommend a fab glass of wine and generally welcome you to enjoy the bookshop as the relaxed, fun space we always intended it to be.

There is a well stocked kids section, adult fiction & non-fiction, stylish stationary and greetings cards, an exciting timetable of diverse events and a packed book-group. We offer a book subscription service and are happy to help get books posted both nationally and internationally.

But most importantly WE LOVE TO TALK BOOKS so whether you are a book-a-day kind of person or haven’t read since your schooldays, strike up a conversation with us and we guarantee some of our passion and excitement will rub off on you.
